Lobby Training Scheduled

Friends:

Due to the generosity of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Aggies who are very interested in the opportunity in lobby training (and learning how to talk to your lawmakers), a venue has been secured for Equality Texas Lobby Training.

Equality Texas Lobby Training
April 24th 6-7pm
Rudder Tower Rm 302.

For those who would like to go Dutch on dinner before the meeting, arrangements are being made. Please contact me privately so that I can include you in the discussion of where we will be eating.

Very soon I will get with Judie about an announcement or press release. It is her desire to have every person attending go to the Equality Texas website and register. The reason for this is so that we can spend time in small groups based on who our Representatives are to discuss and role play.
"Other than that advertising and getting people to sign up on the website is the biggest key. Although an RSVP isn’t necessary, the people that sign up ahead of time can be matched to their representatives based on their district, which helps us provide more accurate info"

So, we need to start visiting with others and talking this event up. Talk to your friends, to your organizations, and most importantly - use your contacts to reach out to others so that we can build coalition in regard to this training. This information is so very applicable to immigrant rights, women's health issues, the anti-war movement, etc.

As soon as RSVP information is available I will send this to you.

Thanks in advance for your help...

Concept

To create a diverse lobbying team in the Brazos Valley by creating a coalition of well trained advocates. Members should be pulled from as many diverse identity groups as possible and be trained in how to speak to legislators about their issues. The hope is that this will engender networking between groups so that for instance Planned Parenthood advocates feel comfortable going to Chet Edwards and talking about GLBT legislation such as the Hate Crimes Act of an inclusive form of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. In return, GLBT Advocates will spend their time activating and talking to Rep Edwards about sex educations and other issues on the forefront of the PP Agenda. This is a way to train together to build coalition networks to put our coalition issues on the radar for lawmakers.
